Providence College Web Editor News Winter 2024

Block Migration Project
Over the last several months, Web Services with the support of PC’s Marketing and Communications department, has been replacing our older WordPress blocks with updated equivalents. We’ve been systematically going through each site, page-by-page, and migrating content to use the new, enhanced versions of our custom blocks. In most cases the new PC Custom blocks look identical on published pages to the older versions. In some cases these blocks have been modified to better illustrate the brand on the web and may look different than what you are used to. Backend functionality for editors may also be different- in many cases they are easier to use and more intuitive. Information regarding the new “PC Custom Blocks” and the old “Legacy Blocks” are available on the Blockumentation & Styleguide Page. Once the Block Migration Project is complete, the older blocks will be removed and no longer available to use across our sites. We ask you to please, during this transition time before the project is complete, to use the new PC Custom Blocks rather than the older Legacy block equivalents when you are crafting new content on your pages.
On-site Search Moving to Google
We’re very excited to announce that we’re moving our on-site search for the providence.edu sites to Google. Very soon you will notice that the headers across our sites will be changed to accommodate new search functionality. For the spring semester, both the old version of search and the new Google AI-assisted search will be available for our users. The intent of moving to Google AI-assisted search is to provide our community with better, more accurate search results across our sites, enabling folks to more easily identify and get the information they need. If you have feedback/constructive criticism regarding the new feedback, please send it to web@providence.edu. Thanks you!
