Monthly Web Editor Survey
For March, we’re looking at the Posts block and the Slider block. These are really powerful custom blocks, but they really have niche uses.
The Posts Block
The Posts block allows you to pull in the latest WordPress posts from any site at PC, and you can even limit it to any post category! Here’s a couple of example post blocks grabbing content from other sites:
Post Block from news.providence.edu
(Category: Dominicans, grid layout, limited to four items)
Post Block from news.providence.edu
(All latest posts, regardless of category, list layout, limited to three items)
The Slider Block
Sometimes called a “carousel” the Slider block allows you to add multiple “slides” (usually images) to an interactive page element. CAUTION: Sliders may be fun to create, but user experience shows that they’re not particularly well-loved by users, and they often do the opposite of what you hope — users typically only see the first and sometimes second image in a slider. That said, we keep this block here as an option!
